We recently visited King Edward Mine, near Troon in Cornwall, which for many years was used as a teaching (and working) mine, and has now been restored to close to its original function. There we filmed an exhibition of a working tin mill, including the stamps engineCalifornian stamps, round frameround frame, sand tablesand washing tables, {short description of image}ball mill, buddlebuddles and other machinery in operation, plus a demonstration of how to use a vanning shovel to separate the tin from the ore and other impurities. We also filmed many of the exhibits in the Mine Museum.
In a second visit we also filmed a demonstration mine rescue and captured more extensive footage of the mine exhibits, including scale models of Cornish mines, explanatory diagrams of tin processing and photos. This footage, plus film of other Cornish Mining sites, is now available, exactly as it was filmed, and the filming is of high digital quality, and each DVD is almost 4 hours in duration. Authentic film of working machinery of this type and of Cornish Mining sites is very unusual, and is offered as a fascinating record of mining in bygone times. The pictures shown are actual stills from the film.
